Using yeast in the trough increased weight by 1.3@ and improved carcass finish

Cultron Line: it's time for a culture change

Cultron and Cultron Pro participated in experiments carried out with beef steers in a confinement system and the results exceeded expectations

The study took place between April 9 and August 28, 2020 at the facilities at the Animal Production Center (Nupran) next to the Master's Course in Veterinary Sciences at Unicentro, in Guarapuava (PR), under the coordination of professor and consultant Aleris Dr. Mikael Neumann .

“Our objective was to evaluate the productive performance, ingestive behavior, apparent feed digestibility and carcass characteristics of beef steers finished in confinement fed with different types of yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae)”, adds Mikael.

In the experiment, three diets were used: T1 – without the addition of yeast or ionophore additives (control); T2 – control diet + inclusion of yeast culture (7g animal per day with Cultron®); and T3 – control diet + inclusion of autolyzed yeast, specific for ruminants (7g animal per day with Cultron Pro®).

“The use of yeast culture presented superior results throughout the confinement period, presenting greater gains in average daily weight and better optimization of feed conversion compared to those animals that consumed the control diet”, explains Mikael and continues: “the effects on the environment of rumen is the starting point for a cascade of positive events, which together, become responsible for positive results when working with yeast culture”.

Cultron® is a yeast culture (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) obtained from fermentation in a controlled nutrient medium, containing sugar cane molasses and corn derivatives. “This technological process maximizes the metabolic activity of the yeast, which increases the biological value of the final product”, informs the professor.

Cultron Pro® is an autolyzed yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) developed for ruminants, originating from the fermentation of sugar cane, being a protein source with wide availability of cellular constituents, which contribute to the fermentative processes in the rumen, containing in its composition nutrients of high biological value, such as peptides, amino acids, vitamins from the B complex, and with functional compounds such as β-glucans, mannan oligosaccharides, in addition to cytoplasmic constituents”, he highlights. These characteristics were able to provide important gains in the immunity of animals fed with 7g/animal/day of Cultron Pro® during the experimental period, proving to be a tool for preventing loss of immunity caused by the stress of confinement and a high challenge of food and nutritional management.

“The use of the Cultron line should not only be recommended for improving animal performance, but as a preventative technology against loss of immunity. Certainly animals supplemented with the Cultron line become more economically viable in the finishing phase in confinement”, adds the consultant.
